Handler PC Whitehouse

Cougar’s handler wrote the following.

“Cougar joined me at Cleveland Police and began his service as a Trainee police dog on 23/10/2020.  He successfully licensed as a General Purpose PD on 05/03/2021 and served his community until his passing.

PD Cougar was a big dog with an even bigger heart. Very balanced and had a great on/off switch and a great nose. His strengths were his ability to search and tracking.

Sadly, he suddenly became unwell and passed away due to illness.

He was my first dog since joining the dog section and was very special to me.

He was taken much too soon and will always be missed.”

PD Will

Handler PC Gobie

Will went to his handler at the age of 12 weeks.  He was a huge dog and had the drive and heart to match his size.

His handler said

“Will’s passing was so sudden, I had planned the rest of my time around him and retiring with him.  He was a fantastic dog with great potential and remained balanced, he was a great role model for the pups in my role as an instructor.

He is greatly missed by us all”

PD Boas

Boas was a five year old German Shepherd who died in 2016. He was euthanised after being deemed unsafe to the public, and therefore unsuitable for police work.

PD Dutch

Dutch was a Belgian Shepherd who died in 2015.

PD Iiko

Iiko, a seven year old German Shepherd was euthanised in 2015. He was deemed to be unsafe to the public, and therefore unsuitable for police work.

PD Danno

Danno, in 2014, was euthanised. He was a six year old German Shepherd Dog who was euthanised due to safety issues. He was deemed unsafe to the public, and therefore unsuitable for police work.

PD Zeus

Zeus died in 2014. He was a German Shepherd Dog and had a history of illnesses. He was unable to retain any weight. Following tests, Zeus was put to sleep on the advice of his vet.

PD Jasper

Jasper, a six year old Springer Spaniel died in 2013. He was aggressive, especially around food.

PD Kai II

Died of old age in 2012. He was a ten year old Mallinois.

PD Cassie

Cassie was a Springer Spaniel. In 2011 Cassie was euthanised due to having an untreatable mass (tumours) in the thorax.

PD Buddy

Buddy, a seven year old German Shepherd Dog died in 2011. He was euthanised after biting a kennel hand. He was deemed unsafe to the public, and therefore unsuitable for police work.

PD Ricki

A seven year old German Shepherd Dog. Put to sleep in 2008 due to muscle wastage.

PD Bear

Bear was a German Shepherd Dog. In 2007 he was euthanised due to safety and control issues. He was deemed unsafe to the public, and therefore unsuitable for police work.
